Century Direct Group Report – The Indian region of Orissa, in the east, imposed a temporary ban on fishing in the three districts of its coastline to facilitate mating and nesting of thousands of endangered turtles. The ban will last seven months and will affect the waters up to 20 miles offshore to protect Olive Ridley turtles, an endangered species that starts in December its annual nesting beaches in Orissa.

Despite the protective measures taken by the Indian Government, every year thousands of these turtles die, mainly due to accidents or erroneous catch boats and boats engaged in fishing illegally, Century Direct Group Report has learnt from various reports.
